Welcome to Wilmington Friends

A top private school in Wilmington, Delaware — rooted in purpose, ready for tomorrow.

Wilmington Friends School is Delaware’s oldest independent school — and the only private school offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

With over 275 years of Quaker tradition, we provide an education that is both academically rigorous and deeply human. Our students are known, challenged, and inspired — and they graduate not only ready for college, but equipped to lead lives of purpose, empathy, and impact.

Families choose Wilmington Friends because we offer:
  • A globally respected college prep curriculum anchored in the IB program
  • A values-driven community built on integrity, equity, and belonging
  • A long tradition of sending students to top colleges and universities
  • A culture that values reflection, leadership, and meaningful action
In a rapidly changing world, Wilmington Friends offers something rare:
An education that prepares students for what’s next — and grounds them in what matters.

Our 25-acre middle/upper school campus is located in the center of the Alapocas neighborhood. Our lower school campus is just a short walk away, nestled in Alapocas Woods on 30 acres. Serving preschool, elementary, middle and high school students.
"We chose Wilmington Friends for our children to provide them with a more personalized education, smaller class sizes, and access to an academic curriculum that facilitates and encourages debate and dialogue, not just rote memorization. WFS’ focus on independence, cooperation and respect for one another, along with sports and extracurricular opportunities, will help them excel academically and personally, preparing them for future success."
