Morning Activities

The morning schedule will consist of four structured activities and a snack. Campers will divide into age appropriate groups to attend each morning session.

Weekly Theme
Having a weekly theme at lower school summer camp is essential for creating a structured and engaging experience for young campers. Themes provide a cohesive focus, allowing for a variety of activities and projects centered around a central idea, which keeps children excited and motivated. This approach adds variety to the camp experience, ensuring that each week offers something new and intriguing, while also integrating educational elements into fun activities. Themes foster creativity and exploration, as campers delve into different concepts and apply their imagination in themed contexts. Additionally, a shared theme enhances teamwork and builds a sense of community, as children collaborate on projects and participate in group activities. Overall, weekly themes make the camp experience more dynamic, memorable, and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Physical Education
Each morning, campers will engage in focused, physical activity. We will stretch muscles and bodies with activities like basketball, tag games, soccer, tumbling, throwing and catching, and running. Children will have the opportunity to participate in a different physical activity each day of the week. In competitive and noncompetitive games, campers will develop cooperation and communication skills. This daily session will combine physical education with the fun of recess.

Design Space
At summer camp, a design space is a creative area where campers work on engaging design projects that fit within a single week long session. Campers may rotate through different stations or focus on one project at a time, such as crafting a themed item, building a simple model, or creating a group mural. This setup allows them to quickly dive into hands-on activities and see their creations come to life in a short amount of time. The design space encourages creativity and exploration, providing a fun and interactive environment where kids can experiment with different materials and techniques without the need for extensive refinement.

STEAM
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics, and it involves learning about these areas through hands-on activities. At summer camp, STEAM rotation means campers move through different activities each week that covers various STEAM topics. This setup keeps kids engaged and allows
them to explore each field in a fun, structured way. The daily activity may offer a new project or challenge, helping campers develop problem-solving skills and understand how STEM concepts apply to real life, all while having a great time.

Afternoon Activities

Swimming
Campers go to the pool four days a week for an hour of fun at Arden Swim Club. The main pool is a 25-meter six-lane pool that features a springboard, a basketball hoop, and a separate kiddie pool. Formal lessons are not provided, however, our trained staff assist any campers who are new to swimming.

Bowling, Ice Skating, and Event Days!
On days that kids don’t go to the pool, they will either go bowling, ice skating, or participate in an Event Day including Around the World, Festival Day, Bubble and Splash Blast, and Olympics.

Location:
The Lower School Day Camp will be located at the Upper School campus of Wilmington Friends School this year due to construction occurring at the Lower School campus over the summer. On-site facilities include a large multipurpose gym, two art/computer/activity rooms, a kitchen, locker rooms, and outdoor fields and play equipment.

Clothing and Toys: Children should wear cool, comfortable, weather appropriate clothes to camp, and be prepared for both outdoor and indoor activities. All campers must wear sneakers and socks. Please do not send your child to camp in sandals. Campers will not need to bring toys to camp. While it is appropriate for our Mighty Munchkin campers to bring a favorite blanket or stuffed animal to help them relax during quiet time, all other toys and electronic devices are prohibited from being brought to camp.

Absences: If your child is going to be absent, please call 302-576- 6789 after 7:30 a.m. to inform the camp staff.

Lunches and Snacks: Snack will be provided to all campers in the mid-morning and to those enrolled in After-Camp Care. Water is available throughout the day. Campers will need to provide their own lunches in insulated bags or coolers. Please pack lunches that do not require additional refrigeration or heat. On Wednesdays, campers will have the option to purchase pizza for lunch; information will be available each week about “Pizza Wednesdays.”
