Middle School French Students Visit Martinique

In February, middle school French students visited Martinique, a French overseas department in the Caribbean.
While practicing their French, they explored the island’s rich history, learning about the indigenous Arawak people and the African slaves brought to work on sugarcane and banana plantations before the abolition of slavery. They discovered how bananas grow, how mangroves protect the coastline and provide a safe habitat for young crabs and fish, and how various plants serve medicinal purposes. Students also sampled new foods and even tried their hand at cooking accras de morue (cod fritters) with local chefs!
